It has been a while since I posted. I have been to Mayhem in the Midlands, one of the best mystery conventions around. Laura Lippman, Donna Andrews, Maria Lima, Denise Hamilton, Denise Swanson, Pari (whose full name I can't remember at this time of night), Kent Krueger, Susan McBride and others who I also can't remember at this time at night were all there. As always the panels were great. It is one of the few cons where I still go to panels.
The size is what makes it so special. Under 200 people. You really get to talk to your favorite authors and I had a ball chatting with everyone. Not enough time but there never is. I won't miss the hotel - it is going to a different hotel next year and the staff (with a few major exceptions) tried to insure that no one would regret moving.
Yesterday I also got to see History Boys and highly recommend it. I think standing ovations are all too common these days but I was one of the first on my feet for this one. Considering how young most of the cast was, the performances were amazing. There was a maturity that one associates with more experienced actors.
I also liked the layers in this play. No one was all good or all bad but a lot of shades of grey. Very complex which is what makes it so interesting.
